Britons moving abroad

Dec 11 2006 Published by under Uncategorized

More than 5.5 million Brits are living abroad, with more soon to be joining them:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/in_depth/brits_abroad/html/

"some 2,000 British citizens moved permanently away from the UK every week in 2005."
Thats a lot of people moving out.

But, hang on a minute; look at the map in the article; the UK is grey. Checking the legend, grey is "No Information".
The BBC should really google for "census uk" :)

Looking forward to the holidays

Dec 08 2006 Published by under Uncategorized

The holidays cannot get here soon enough; I need the rest. Talking with my tutor he stated that "engineering, maths, law and medicinal students have the highest workload out of the university"; yeah, I know, I'm fsckin knackered.
I'm looking forward to installing signalling equipment in the new Brownhills West box [just put up, I'm awaiting some photos of the lift], working on Lapwing-Linux and improving RailMan. Yeah, its geeky, but I don't care :-p

Considering last years fubar with my car, I'm on the look out for a replacement just in case the MOT is prohibitively expensive, so if anyone knows of a diesel car/van going for less than £300 in the next 2 months, drop a comment or email or something.

Finally, some links to keep you occupied:

I agree with most of it, cept for the cheating bit and the best paragraph:
"While men want an argument to make sense and have a rational conclusion, women solely want the argument itself: it's a pressure valve for their emotions, and once they get started there is no stopping them." Yes, that is so damned true.

How to annoy your local Christian fundamentalists: Invite the local Unitarian-Universalists who embrace all religions to join in [OK Ben, Unitarian-Universalists do exist ... ]

Open Sourced Car? I'll get one

And finally: A martian sunset.

Thats all folks!

XFCE 4.4 and Uni reports

Dec 05 2006 Published by under Uncategorized

I've finished Systems Engineering report, only handed in on time by jettisoning some of the spec requirements; I'm not all that fussed, there's resubmits in August I can do if absolutely necessary.

I'm using the development version of XFCE 4.4, and I like it; it looks much better than 4.2, and more stuff makes sense; the mixer applet needs some work, but most of it is stable and useful. I'm quite happy with it and looking forward to 4.4 stable :-)

Reet, I'm off to play some Half Life 2, then to bed. Night all :)
