Bush needing the loo ...

Sep 21 2005 Published by under Uncategorized

I'm not the greatest fan of G "Dubya" Bush. But everyone needs to go to the loo, even world leaders.

All the hoo haa of "its doctored, no its not" like here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4260540.stm
isn't really needed, whats really interesting is that Bush's advisors won't let him have anything other than a pencil.

"Please Enter your First Six Digit Number..."

"Please Enter your Seventh Six Digit Number..." >clickety<
"I'm Sorry, but the Number Entered is Invalid, Please Call Customer Services."

GAHHH!!

WTF??? Yeah OK, the MicroSerf Windows Activation Line is free, but phoning on my mobile costs ME money. Why the hell do I need to ring them anyway?

"How many installations are you completing with this disc apart from the current one?" "Just this one?!?!"
Like I'm going to say "Yeah, I'm pirating the copies and you've locked me out" ? {Not that I am ;-) }

Please, Please, PLEASE Wine developers, get DirectX working to support OpenGL. Or Cedega. I'll pay anything {nearly} to get away from Winblows. I'm sick of it. Virii, spyware, anti-anti-virus, spoofed sites, Activation Codes; I want out!
Blasting my partition table isn't as bad as I thought, most of the data is still intact. Re-install of WinF*ckUp XP (it >is< that bad now), tried installing Return to Castle Wolfenstein, "Cannot open OpenGL drivers, using VGA"; XP uses as much hard drive as a complete GNU/Linux install and it hasn't OpenGL Drivers?? I want to get a few flamethrowers and wade into a pro-Windows forum.

I could go on. I'm THAT pissed off with Windows. God knows what I woulda done had I not discovered GNU/Linux.
Probably gone mad and spent hundreds on ZoneAlarmPro/Symantec Complete Protection/Windows Vista.

Thanks, but no thanks Microsoft; I've had completely enough of your rubbish. First chance I get, WinXP gets nuked. Long time coming, but it will happen.
I feel so enlightened :-)

Laptop

Sep 10 2005 Published by under Uncategorized

It's not my week for electronics.

The router dropped down dead a few days ago, so the house with 7 people in has 1 internet connection at a time. Yay. :-(

Then, whilst trying to rig up my laptop to act as a temporary router, I accidentally wiped my partition table, loosing all the stuff on there. Thankfully I'd backed up most of the important data to my new samba server; it meant that I could do my long planned re-partiton, so I have 6 5Gb partitions to play with, so I can test new releases of aLinux without breaking my working one, and finally { yes, finally } start to work on Lapwing-Linux and maybe, just maybe, get a distro together.

Mental Note; don't use Smoothwall install to a in use laptop :-)

Samba

Sep 03 2005 Published by under Uncategorized

Finally, after 10 hours work, got Samba to work on my server. I'm relieved that I can now have some spare space on my laptop to play with other distros and get Lapwing-Linux off the ground and into something approaching a distro.

As ever, R'ingTFM works wonders :-)

Nb; I'll probably be back within the hour complaining it won't let me play songs on it :-)
